Kansas Star Casino officials announced a new vendor program today that will give Kansas businesses preferred vendor status at Kansas Star Casino. Kansas Star seeks to buy goods and services that are available in Kansas from Kansas vendors. Kansas Star’s commitment to work with Kansas businesses is a clear indication of the new casino’s commitment to bolstering the local economy.
“Supporting economic development is an integral part of Kansas Star’s mission,” Scott Cooper, general manager, Kansas Star Casino said. “When we buy Kansas First, we all reap the rewards that make our local economy and our community stronger. That’s why our team is committed to purchasing from Kansas First vendors. We’re seeking Kansas-based vendors to sign up on our website now.”
Peninsula Gaming has a proven track record with a similar program in Iowa. In fact, Peninsula Gaming operations in Iowa purchased nearly 99% of their total expenditures on products, supplies and services that are available in Iowa from Iowa-based vendors.1 Kansas Star will be built 18 miles south of Wichita hopes to duplicate the success in Kansas.
"I'm very pleased that this is moving forward for south central Kansas," noted Rep. Vince Wetta, D-Wellington. "The goal of SB 66 is to generate economic activity and this voluntary program by Peninsula Gaming will help Kansans with jobs and business opportunities and that's welcome news in our area."
When Kansas Star Casino opens, they will purchase a variety of goods and services required for operating including paper goods, food and beverage items, uniforms, durable goods, signage, office supplies, safety and first aid supplies, gift shop items, casino merchandise, advertising, and more. Among other services, Kansas Star will use local printers and mail handling services. Kansas organizations that are interested in doing business with Kansas Star Casino are encouraged to visit KansasStarCasino. com and click on “vendor” to register as a preferred vendor. Preferred vendors receive updates and requests for bids. They become part of the team of Kansas businesses who will supply the region’s newest entertainment venue.
1 Reporting period January 1, 2010- September 30, 2010, Diamond Jo Dubuque and Diamond Jo Worth combined.
