Due to severe abuse and illegal dumping at the City's brush pit, an iron gate has been installed to deter illegal dumping and limit access for non-residents who are using the brush pit.


The new policy to take brush out to the brush pit is as follows:

*    Monday thru Friday, the vendor or resident must call or come to the city building DAILY and sign the Brush Pit Book permit prior to dumping, except on Saturday.  

*    Proof of the city address to obtain a brush permit either by showing proof of your driver's license or for vendors the contract for the address they are working at.

Household Hazardous Waste Remote Collections

Not sure what to do with that left-over paint, antifreeze or old pharmaceuticals?  Don't just throw them away!  Bring them to one of the Sedgwick County Household Hazardous Waste collection sites near you.

Brush Pit Guidelines
The brush pit is located at the west edge of the city east of the river on 146th Ave. N. and 1/4 mile south by the wastewater treatment plant. Only tree brush is allowed at the brush pit. No leaves, paper products or construction items are allowed. This is only for Mulvane citizens residing in the city limits and paying Mulvane city taxes.
 
The brush pit is the property of the City of Mulvane and only city residents are allowed to dump brush in the brush pit.  This constitutes citizens living in the City of Mulvane and paying city taxes.  This does not include Mulvane residents living outside of the city limits and paying Mulvane School taxes.  
 
During the months of September through May the street department will pick up limbs  at the curb.  If a storm occurs the street department will pick up limbs for about 2 weeks after the storm and thereafter each citizen will need to call the city office to have tree limbs picked up at  777-1143.
 
During May to September the street department maintains and slurries the city streets and does not pick up tree limbs unless a storm occurs.  
 
If a citizen is able to haul their tree limbs out to the brush pit they must come to the city office and sign the Brush Pit Book prior to going out to the brush pit and the city staff will call a Street Department Personnel to unlock the gate.  The city office will record the citizen's name, address of where the tree were trimmed at and phone number.  The brush pit is open weekly from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. after signing the book. 
 
The brush pit is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. without a brush pit permit for the citizens convenience.  
 
The brush pit is open to Arborists/Tree Trimmers that are licensed in the City of Mulvane that are trimming trees in Mulvane only for Mulvane residents paying city taxes.  They must come to the City of Mulvane to sign the Brush Pit Book. prior to using the brush pit.  If you are having trees trimmed in the City of Mulvane please ask your tree trimmer for their City of Mulvane license.
